Job Description:

Database Administrator Manager (San Diego, CA)

Duties: Design and architect database solutions to support Neustar’s proprietary electronic database. Create,

administer, test, and implement databases on Microsoft SQL server platforms, and will convert standalone databases

to SQL Clustered database or AlwaysOn Availability Group database. Apply Service Packs and cumulative updates and

tune poorly performing databases in order to ensure optimal configuration. Monitor database performance using

Management Data Warehouse (MDW), SQL Performance Dashboard, Database Engine Tuning Advisor (DTA), SQL

Dynamic Functions and Views and Windows Performance Monitor (perfmon) and Resource Monitor. Maintain database

backup/recovery environments, and review overall physical database structures for data integrity, performance quality,

recoverability, maintenance, and space requirement considerations. Triage and troubleshoot issues for the RDBMS and

platform environments, and facilitate application development and client problem resolution. Monitor file system space

and database allocation, and verify efficient use of disk storage in order to optimize space allocation. Export, drop,

create and import pre-scheduled time to minimize impact and provide application development staff an optimal

development environment and current data. Automate procedures and reorganize or defragment database, tables, and

indexes in order to provide efficient database environments, maximize productivity, and improve performance. Upgrade

databases in a side-by-side and/or in-place configurations. Set up administrate scripts for analyzing and gathering

statistics. Perform database restore and recovery in disaster scenarios.

Education and Experience:

Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field and

three (3) years’ experience performing SQL Server installation, configuration and administration; or in the alternative, a

Bachelor’s Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field and

five (5) years’ experience as indicated above; or no Educational Degree and seven (7) years’ experience as indicated

above.

Special Requirements:

Also requires demonstrated expertise (DE): creating, configuring and maintaining SQL server High Availability (HA) and

Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions using SQL Failover Clustering, SQL Replication, Database Mirroring and Log Shipping;

DE creating scripts using T-SQL for database performance and availability monitoring; DE migrating and managing SQL

databases to AWS and cloud environment, data migration from Oracle, MySQL, and PostgreSQL to SQL server; DE in

creating backup and recovery for standalone, clustered and Availability Group SQL databases for data recovery; DE

designing database architecture including Technical Design Specifications for complex and high impact database

applications; DE in SQL Server monitoring using SQL Dynamic Functions and Views, Management Data Warehouse

(MDW), SQL Performance Dashboard, Database Engine Tuning Advisor (DTA), Windows Server Performance Monitor

(perfmon) and Resource Monitor; and DE with database Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO) and planning and

optimization of database resources: Processors, Memory and Storage.
