Job Description

We have a new opening for a Component Engineer at our Garden Grove facility. This position within Engineering performs management of power and control electronic components to enable development and sustaining of electronic power conversion product designs.

The Space and Power Management Group (SPM) is the power systems division of Microchip Corporation and a leading designer, manufacturer marketer of high performance modules and systems in Power Management. Our primary market is in Space Systems and other high reliability applications such as flight critical aviation systems. We see ourselves as partners to our customers and define and provide differentiated solutions that address system and sub-system level challenges. We place great emphasis on validated solutions that work right the first time.

Responsibilities:

  • Determine requirements for electronic components within product configurations
  • Execute development of Bills of Material according to electrical and mechanical design requirements
  • Assess susceptibility of components to ion single event, neutron fluence and total radiation dose
  • Perform Failure Mode Effect analysis, component stress analysis and reliability analysis
  • Sustain manufacturing operations with obsolescence management and substitute parts
  • Compose screening drawings to flow down requirements
  • Analyze product test non-conformance items. Develop cause and corrective action plans
  • Propose design modifications to improve reliability within cost and other performance requirements
  • Define new-technology roadmaps for future Microchip power systems
  • Minimal domestic and International travel required 0-10%

Job Requirements

  • Requires a BS Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent years will be considered
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in high reliability aerospace electronics environment
  • Desired to be proficient in NASA GSFC EEE-INST-002 & GSFC PPL-21, MIL-STD-1547 & 975 specifications
  • Experience with radiation effects preferred
  • Familiarity with power supply design preferred
  • Excellent Technical Writing skills is preferred
  • Able to present effectively before customers or employees of organization
  • This job position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by the export laws of the United States.
